Took video as we were landing into the city. Recorded on July 31st.
Cockpit nose view of an Airbus 320 Landing at La Aurora International Airport of Guatemala City. A very interesting and difficult approach due to the surrounding orographic conditions of the city. We had two TCAS events in the same approach! Recorded with the Gopro hero 3 in HD.
My itinerary had me taking a flight from Guatemala City to Flores, Guatemala. My guide got me to the airport 2 hours ahead of time. I was through security in less than a half hour even though I stopped for a snack and head call. The plane was 15 min. late taking off. Sheesh, no margin for actual conditions allowed. The flight was on Avianca. The service comfort and even the light supper they served was a plus. Also, the bar was well stocked and the flight attendent generous in her pour.
I was in a 2-3 street area next completely enclosed by guarded fence, and gates. "Join HoboTraveler. Drive from Guatemala City Airport in rental car - October 2015 Conducir desde el Aeropuerto de la Ciudad de Guatemala en coche de alquiler - Octubre 2015 I was driving from the car rental place near the airport. Using Dollar Rental Car. Google maps had the wrong location for the hotel. I went to where Google Maps said the hotel was, but it was wrong. I later found another location for this hotel on Google Maps. Be careful when using something like Google Maps in these countries. This takes to long, but we did it safely.
Flight IB6341 landing on GUA - La Auorora Airport, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The airport has one runway and is basically surrounded by the city. Most of the landings fly over the city and you can enjoy nice views, especially if sitting on the left side. Airbus A330-200 (A332). This is about 2 hours of riding condensed down. I left Antigua Guatemala to take my wife to the airport so she could fly back home. The traffic is like this almost everyday from early in the morning to late in the evening. According to Google maps it is a 50 minute trip. Even on the motorcycle it took an hour. It took over 2 hours one way in a car when she flew into Guatemala a week earlier.
http://amzn.to/1Qvbu58 Great book to read on Guatemala. Video landing to my recent trip to Guatemala City. I love taking the window seat especially when I land in Guatemala City just because it's so scenic. You can see so many lakes, volcanoes, and different landscape. I took the video with my new Canon s110 in 1080p. Below is the equipment I used to make this video. Uber is the cheapest way to travel from Guatemala City`s La Aurora Airport to any place in town. To Zona 1, or City Center / Historic Center, the cost of the ride from the airport is just 3-5 USD. For comparison, a taxi from the airport booked through your hotel/hostel is around 12-15 USD. To Zona 10, the main commercial area with shopping centers and upscale restaurants, the price is less than 3 USD.
